Evil Pawn Jewelry adorns Kansas City in something different

Evangeline has always had a passion for jewelry, and started designing at a very young age.

After working as a bench jeweler in fine jewelry shops, Evangeline decided she had enough of the monotony.

She had seen one too many people their future for something made by a machine, and realized that it wasn going to change unless she took matters into her own hands.

In 2005 she began her own business where she could create her own adornments. It started out as custom only, where she would design pieces with specific customers in mind.

For the next couple years, she made and sold lots of individual pieces, and it 2008 she was able to start her own line. And to keep the custom aspect of Evil Pawn, she never makes more than 1000 of any piece other than the ones, like the cameo skull ring.

believe in buying from people not corporate machines. I believe in buying from artists. I like the thought of America, and maybe Earth, once again being more personal and less plastic. Kansas City seems to be making strides in buying from people, especially when it comes to jewelry.

Evil Pawn Jewelry has been spotted all over Kansas City everywhere from fashion show runways to clothing line photo shoots. It even seen on the ring fingers of a few lucky women thanks to the engagement section on Evil Pawns Web site.

we move onto each year it seems like we all work our lives away for someone else or for so much endless material crap, she said. we don need more money. Maybe we need less crap. The she refers to is not only the low end plastic things particularly jewelry mass produced by machines. It also the drama.

Fortunately, Evangeline has a perfect creative outlet. She is able to use her own thoughts and experiences as inspiration for her work.

One of her favorite pieces, the Caroline Necklace, is an example of how she puts her thoughts and emotions into her work.

is about the worlds expectations of the female body, she explained.

With two female figures, one on each collarbone, it represents the inner battle that all women experience at some point. One side is saying, am good enough, I am me, and I love myself while the other side is fixated on the so called perfect images in the media.

necklace is an amulet against all that stuff you see everyday, Evangeline said. I feel like I am not thin enough or pretty enough, I put that necklace on and nothing can stop me! you arent familiar with Evil Pawn Jewelry or you just want to keep up to date on the latest news, you can visit their Web site or MySpace page, become a fan on Facebook, and even follow them on Twitter.
